Did you know that where there is no water, there is needless suffering;
- nearly 1 billion people don't have access to safe drinking water;
- a child dies every 15 seconds from a lack of clean water’
- 115 people die every hour from diseases linked to poor sanitation, poor hygiene, and contaminated water;
- 1 in 5 children who die before age 5 worldwide, die of a water-related disease;
- children often walk miles every day to collect dirty water to drink; and, water-related illnesses kills more people each year than wars and conflict.
Did you know that when clean water supplies are provided in these areas, everything changes:
- girls return to school;
- women begin small businesses;
- men are no longer too sick to work;
- fields are watered and the food supply becomes more reliable;
- health returns and children grow up to be productive members of their community; and,
- the cycle of poverty is broken.
Check this out!.....Katherine van Diest is the District Champion in RD7610 and her 12-year old daughter, Katrianna is helping with the project too! Katrianna is carrying a jerry jug around different areas of Alexandria, VA to promot RD 7610's event and to help raise money for their water project. Her goal is to raise $3500 this summer while she is out of school. So far she has raised $700 in ONLY TWO DAYS!!!!!!!! She has a facebook page HERE Let's give her some "LIKES" to help spread the word of her cause! She is actually collecting the money in her water jug and it weighs 20lbs alone. She's opened a bank account with a bank that is also going to donate to the cause. She's sooooo awesome! Way to go Katrianna!
How sweet is this little boy? He has the same smile on his face that my little boy has when he gets a new toy...but this boy is happy about water...something that my little boy takes for granted.
Do you take water for granted? What are ways that you are trying to cut back on your water usage?
Plans are still coming along well for the race! We are working on getting all of the sponsorship letters & opportunities finalized and ready to send out. Do you know someone who could sponsor this event?
We need it.
We can't live without it...but some people do.
We want to FIX that! And guess what!?!? WE CAN!
The RotaryGlobalRun4Water is being organized by Rotarians from all over the world on 30 September 2012.
Each club can choose a different date if they wish, the idea is to create awareness while raising funds for Water.
We are making this HAPPEN for our Rotary District 7710. But it goes beyond Rotary and Rotarians...can you get your friends & family to come to this event!?! We'd love to see you all there!
